Some design history…
I was inspired by this current post on Speak Up about landmark posters. http://www.underconsideration.com/speakup/archives/004208.html. Several of these have been shown at one point in time in one of my classes as I introduced an assignment. But, in case you were absent that day and/or missed design history. Or if you are just looking to learn and see some things. These two sites are quite amazing.
and Alki1’s flickr sets of historical design.

It is amazing how much stuff is out the on the web. A great deal of people are now using Flickr as a way to archive historical works such as these. (PS Flickr is also a good way to create an oline portfolio, and free).

I really liked the Dutch Graphic Design page. The work was really colorful for one which I like but it was simple and somewhat basic. I really like that when designers can produce work that is still eye catching and clean with out using fancy filters or distorting photos.
I went to their post on their new Graphic Design Reference book- the comments on what they should include were great, and I ended up adding my own suggestions…would really like to know when that book comes out.
I agree about the dutch graphic design page…that’s a helpful link. It’s very interesting to see all of those comments about posters, but I just can’t seem to get into some of the discussion. That Fresh Eggs poster seemed pretty obvious to me… eggs are fresh, and the paint is so fresh it came from the eggs. I mean, it’s a simple communication… I think it’s interesting when someone designs or creates something, and they have a certain intention, or maybe they’re just trying to make things work visually, and then people analyze it to death and draw their own conclusions. I’m reminded of that Soundgarden video for “Black Hole Sun,” and the fact that there were many people who came up with different reasons for the people’s mouths growing bigger, and when they asked the band about it they just said they thought it looked cool.
I really like the Dutch Graphic design page too. I wish I knew the language so I could better understand the communication aspect. This is a collection of some very neat artwork especially the one with the black and white collaged man wearing those big glasses with the text in the upper right corner. It’s simple and slightly odd. I’m starting to really appreicate photo collages with text.
