Art Dept Broshizel

Hey everyone, here it is so far. I Still have a lot of content to add… Anyone have descriptions of the different concentrations?? Anyway…Remember my theme was loosely based on alchemy…. I started out with something way busier and more hectic… then when i started to turn off some layers… this idea emerged… it’s way more abstract, but I like it (I don’t know why fire and things like that took 2 weeks to pop into my head while thinking about alchemy??WTF)… Also… as it is now, if you had two of these folded open, you could place the back side against the front and have one long ass poster.

P.S. EVERYONE SHOULD POST SOMETHING!!!! POST OR DIE

oh, and sorry about the jpeg quality… the pdf version is just too damn big to post…. so deal with it! I love pixels!

Front/Back or…. outside/inside

BTW, Please ignore the green lines if you see them, and that long blue one on the 2nd page… those are just some guides I made.

  2. Nick says:

You’ve got a pretty nice 3d type treatment for EMU Art Department, but I think you’re combining too many ideas with the imagery in the background. I think that breaking stuff right behind the letters is not integrated well with either the background or the type itself.

  3. shawn says:

the type treatment for “emu depARTment” is interesting enough – i dont think it needs that ska explosion behind it. cant really think of anything that needs a ska explosion…but anyway, maybe have it interact a little more naturally with the image itself instead of floating on a different plane.

  4. shawn says:

also, maybe replace those big black blocks with something similar to the “department” type.

  5. Erica J. says:

I like what you have going on, particularly the type treatment for “emu depARTment”, but I agree that there seems to be too much happening. There is the interesting abstract imagery competing the type treatment for hierarchy, and seems to be “floating” as Shawn mentioned. Pick one and work the other to integrate them.

Nit-picky: on the inside, where is says “Art Department Undergraduate Degree Programs”, that is the only head that has a vertical black bar, which seems a little out of place. Also the vertical bar placement doesn’t seem to include the info in the first paragraph, though it should. Also, the justification under the Scholarship section can be cleaned up a bit (long, short, long…).

    Thanks for the input everybody!

Side note: I’m almost thinking I shouldn’t have posted it yet cause most of your suggestions are basically where I’m alredy heading with it…. I actually already have 3d type done for all the concentrations, and i was planning on trying to pull elements from the imagery into the mix. As for the ska explosion… I haven’t yet figured out what to do there… but it does need something… well see…. I’ll post again when i get further.

Hi Matt. I agree with what Nick, Shawn, and Erica say. Hi you three!!

I’m looking forward to seeing the next go round.

  9. Pootie-tang says:

    word

  10. Ryan M says:

Pootie-tang would not say word, he’d say “wad-de-tah.”

Aside from that, and agreeing with the comments above. If you want to fill that space in the background try using the 3-d type treatment as elements to fill the background, larger and smaller squares floating in space.

  11. Ryan M says:

Also you can get more inventive with the type forms themselves let them break apart (to almost an unrecognizable degree) at times, possibly becoming the bars. Ultimately have them really move dynamically in the picture plane.

  12. Ryan M says:

Lastly, use the black version of the Eastern logo, you can use it either green, black or white. Go with black.

Sa dah tah my dammie, good advice, had not ever thought of that, would be easy enough to try though…I already have the 3d type for all the concentrations which = all the letters of the alphabet aside from like z and some other anomalies! I’ll try to repost later this week.

    This is looking pretty sweet.

I love the color you chose, it really says Alchemy to me.

Eeryone else took my ideas to say.

    good work though!
