Thanks everyone for setting up the collage wars of evil, pirate, death. I had a lot of fun! And for all you who didn’t show up… wtf were you thinking? Seriously, I mean we have your addresses on file with the school and could just as easily send out a hit squat to terminate you so… consider that a warning… and be sure your there next time.

Working on a brochure for work… there was much frustration to arrive here… also the format came from an idea for a separate brochure. Anyway… we sell high end fitness equipment with excellent service, so I wanted to convey the company as clean cut, professional, and cutting edge, while saying enough, but not telling our life story. I have reduced the type considerably to get to the point fast.. (this jpg is obviously low res.. so some images don’t appear crisp… don’t worry about that). I will be using this to send to current customers and potentially customers as a follow up to a phone call I will make prior. I would like to know what you guys think about it. Thanks for the input!

So I just heard about this movie coming out starring Jack Black and Mos Def, and checked out the website. The website is entirely collaged, or as they call it in the movie “Sweded”. Website is pretty cool, and besides the trailer there are also trailers for the sweded films the characters make (the Ghostbusters one is pretty funny).

You can also swede yourself into movie posters.

Movie is called ‘Be Kind, Rewind‘.

YSAP #1 

Learned some new things about Photoshop and laughed…supposedly this is a viral marketing campaign, but I can’t figure out for what…

how are things going?

EMU Friends of the Library need our help. They are having a contest and need us to do the following:

1. design a bookmark
2. design for a 11″ x 8″ canvas bag (2-3 colours) 
3. design a new logo for them

Each category will win a $100 gift certificate. These designs will give back to the EMU community as they are using them for a fund raiser to make the library better. Not only do you have a chance to win some money but you have the opportunity to give back to EMU. There are a few restrictions you must remember:

• bookmark and canvas bag must say “EMU Friends of the Library”
• your name and graduation year will appear on the design
• you can  have a printed piece to put in your portfolio
• they really want your design to “POP”
• let’s show the library how supportive we are

Early January I received an invitation to an event kicking off a contest exclusive to all past and present ADC Young Gun Winners (a decade’s worth of award winners). While I couldn’t attend the event, I would eventually receive the official guidelines that would enable me to participate in this “contest.” I got the e-mail on friday. The contest: to design the 27th letter.

I find this particular contest quite intriguing, and at this moment am considering making the ART 462 (Image Making 2) class part of it. So on Tuesday in class I will talk more about this becoming a class project, but in the meantime, if you are reading the blog what are your thoughts? Are people interested in another class project?

I usually don’t like competitions, but in this case it has some nice rewards. The work featured in an online exhibition and published in a limited edition book. The proceeds go to non-profit group Lettra27. So it is for a good cause. And lets admit it is also quite a talent pool, it would be impressive to be one the ones chosen.
