hey it looks much more solid. the cut paper type works so well, i wonder if you did it for everything if it’d make it better

There is something off with the EMU ART text that I can’t quite put my finger on. I like the image inside of it, but something feels really rigid about it, in comparison to the rest of the collage (maybe drop shadows! ). Other than trying to typeset letters individually (like a ransom note almost) I can’t offer much more of a suggestion at the moment, there is just something not quite right.

I like the cut type, quite nice. In the long run not easy to update, but I don’t know how long Tom Venner anticipates using these for the Dept., I personally think the longevity of this type of stuff is 2 years max. My suggestion keep the cut type, it looks good, and more finished than what was there before, and will look nice in the portfolio. If picked it is a good way to ensure that you will be the one who works on the file down the line.

OH! one thought… try drawing into/onto the type as you have elsewhere in the collage. Perhaps portions are image and other parts are drawn. Or have portions of the image leak out. Or collage elements onto the type, in front of, etc. …

Be inspired by the work of non-format:

You don’t seem afraid to deconstruct and reassemble the image, try that with the type.

the collage type is working very well

I agree with what tom and ryan both said. I think the EMU looks off, i think if you made it look the same as art or even kept it that color and just put it above the r and t it wouldn’t look so just stuck on there. I think you should continue the torn type treatment to the rest. The mailer needs more patterny like things on it like the brochure does.
