New Website
My Portfolio site is online and functioning. I had to rewrite it all in php, since my experiment with writing the fancy bits in javascript didn’t really work out.
I would love some feedback, especially if you notice anything being broken!

Hey Alan! I think it looks great. I like that your website has your personality.
The only thing I could tell off hand that didn’t work was the link to order your portfolio from lulu.
Best of luck!
This came up on your resume page:
Warning: Missing argument 1 for insert_menu(), called in /home/.handcuffs/alanguir/alanlanguirand.com/resume.php on line 100 and defined in /home/.handcuffs/alanguir/alanlanguirand.com/common/functions.php on line 18
It would be nice if the images and work was shot on a white background, it would give the site a bit cleaner look matching the photos you took of yourself. Also some details or bigger images would be nice, some of the work is hard to see.
the location of the pop-up window on the stills of the motion work is also awkward. since it is the only thing that pops up on the middle of the page.
i didnt take the motion graphics class but clearly i missed the rule that stated - “all short animations in world have and will continue to have a hip hop soundtrack.”
I really like the rotating entry page. Like mentioned above, it gives the site some personality.
The In my box Flash game looks very interesting. Is there a reason I can’t play it? The stills give a nice overview, but it would be nice to give the viewer the option to experience the functioning piece.
Also, the last two links on the interactive page go to campus life. I’m not sure if they are supposed to go to additional projects or not. If not, I would consider removing them.
None of the links on the resume page are working. Like Ryan said, menu doesn’t load either.
One last thing, the copyright and contact info at the bottom seem pretty large and close to the content. The copyright is actually larger than the menu links, and as a result distracts from the really important stuff.
Overall I think you have a good thing going. The site is fun and you have some good work there. Best of luck!
The coding is clean, everything loads fast, and the introduction is nice… I agree about making the portfolio images bigger, especially for the print stuff…it’s detailed and you can’t see much. Also agree you should be able to play the game.
The last motion graphic quicktime seems to be missing the second half. Also, those images that you can click on of the frames is a nice feature, but the larger image appears in an awkward place and sometimes sits on top of the thumbnails.
keep up the good work!
Thanks for the feedback so far! I didn’t get the flash game up yet for time reasons. Good call on the menu in the resume section, that is fixed. I also spent some time getting the site to render properly in IE.
Ryan, you’re right about the white background, so I guess I have some more work to do.
Any thoughts about the font size and leading? I mess with it a little in the campus life section because I couldn’t figure out how to edit the copy on it. Most of the site has leading that is 1.4x the font size, but the CL section is only 1.2. Don’t know if anyone noticed or minds.
I’ll let you know when I have a new round of revisions up. Hopefull all before the Team Detroit Job Fair!
I don’t have much time to look through it all at the moment, but here are a couple things I noticed: On the homepage, the “I am a graphic designer…” part is showing up as being different typefaces when you click between the images. It’s not all the same, nor consistently different, so it looks like a mistake. Also, you may want to do some spell checking. On the Summit page, for example, I think you mean “ascent” instead of “accent” and “disappointment” only has one “s.”
