IDSKETCHING.com is a new site dedicated to teaching how to sketch for product and industrial designers. The site features video tutorials demonstrating everything from the basics of perspective to using specialized software for sketching. Even if you are not an industrial designer the basics of sketching can be used for graphic design ideation, especially those interested in doing packaging design.

thanks, ryan. i’ve been practicing this stuff for a couple months now – i would like to get into character design, eventually. learning how to draw cars and toasters may sound like bullshit but you really learn a lot about how things work, which will help when you design a sweet rocketship or cyborg mutant with a girl butt.

i recently bought two good books that may be of interest:
THE SKILLFUL HUNTSMAN – calarts and founder of designstudio press instructor scott robertson takes 3 of his pupils design the characters, weapons, vehicles and settings of this grimm fairy tale.

MECHANIKA – is a drawing tutorial by doug chiang (from westland), executive vice president of imagemovers digital – a walt disney company – looks like he doing okay. he touches on the tools, programs and such.

all of the artists share a building process that (im sure ryan would approve of) that culminates in original and entertaining artwork. books – check em out!

    p.s.
this is totally off topic but if you’re a fan of labyrinth the movie, look up the maze master on “fat guy stuck in internet”. the song is stuck in my head.
