EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY
Guerrilla Girls On Tour

Eastern Michigan University Art Department; Campus Life; Communication, Media & Theatre Arts Department; Women and Gender Studies Program; Women’s Center; and the College of Arts and Sciences are pleased to announce that the Guerrilla Girls On Tour, an internationally acclaimed, anonymous theatre collective, will be on campus March 12, 2009! This event is free, open to the public, and a LBC (Learning Beyond the Classroom) Event
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Sponberg Theatre, Quirk Hall, Eastern Michigan University

Guerrilla Girls On Tour will bring to the Eastern Michigan University campus Feminists Are Funny, a live performance that addresses the lack of opportunities for women and people of color and explores the combination of performance and visual art. The 70-minute play is an energetic romp through their herstory; an up-to-date account of their latest actions in politics, the performing arts, and the media; a recreation of some of their street theatre protests; and a look at some of the funniest female activists and their accomplishments. The performance, which ends with a lively audience discussion, will serve to educate the community about the current state of sexism at the same time proving that feminists are funny.
Guerrilla Girls On Tour creates original plays, street actions, visual work, and residency programs that dramatize women’s history and advocate on behalf of women and artists of color. In order to put the focus on discrimination, sexism, and racism, each
Over
member works under the name of a dead woman artist and performs wearing a gorilla mask. The 26-member troupe has toured through 35 U.S. states and 7 countries bringing their brand of satirical performance art and activism to places like southern Georgia, Eastern Europe and South America. GGOT is a diverse company of theatre artists and comediennes. They have been featured in the London Times, Village Voice, BackStage, Mother Jones, The Warsaw, LA Times, Pagnina 12, In Theatre, the BBC, TXT Magazine, French Channel 2, Wysokie Obcasy, Palais de Tokyo Paris, The Tony Awards, NWSA Journal and the London Times. They can be reached at www.guerrillagirlsontour.com.
One Eastern Michigan University student will be selected to appear in Feminists Are Funny.  Auditions for this part will take place on March 4 from 12:30-3:30 on the stage in the Food Court  in the Student Center. Callbacks for this part will be held on March 5 at the same time and in the same place.  The person who is cast in the role will be required to memorize a short script.
On March 11, from 3:30-5:30, the Guerrilla Girls on Tour will host a Street Theater Workshop in the Student Center Rm. 310.  This workshop is open to all EMU students.  If you would like to participate, please call Nancy Romano, Art Department secretary, at 734-487-1268, or sign up in Rm. 114 Ford Hall to reserve a space.
A meet and greet reception for the Guerilla Girls will be held on March 11, after the workshop, in the University Gallery in the Student Center from 6-7:30 p.m.  At that time, the gallery will be showing Women’s Ware/Women’s Wear, an all media show focused on feminist concerns. This reception is free and open to the public.
On Thursday, March 5, beginning at 10:00 pm the Women’s Center will host the painting of the kiosk outside Pray-Harrold in order to increase student awareness of the Guerrilla Girls of Tour events.  The Women’s Center will also man a table in Student Center distributing information about the GGOT and handing out bananas!

Interactive design method

plcom.png

I’ve decided to change this blog entry into something more useful for EMU students, and explain the process we followed to create this site. If you’re creating a site by yourself, you might sketch out a design, create mockups, and code everything without having to illustrate many ideas. But, when you work with other designers and developers, more organization is often needed to streamline the process.
