Moving Still – Anaglyphe

“Moving Still est un court-métrage relief époustouflant de 2 mn 22 s, réalisé avec une technique expérimentale à partir d’une seule prise de vue.”

By: AmaK Studio

I’m not going to attempt translating this, but this piece is pretty amazing. You have to watch it with 3d glasses, though (or cd case colored with red/blue sharpie).

It’s New!

screaming

Well, the blog is finally redesigned…sort of… there are some things that have yet to be added. In the next few weeks, there will be a forum, with which everyone can start threads discussing design-related topics, asking technical questions, get help, etc. Also, esteemed illustrator, Shawn Lee will be providing us with a background illustration for the site at some point in the hopefully near future. In the meantime, black and white photos will cycle in the background (well, not now, but as soon as I collect those).

The typeface pops out into 3d space if you use red/blue 3d glasses, and eventually other parts of the site will as well. [ Here is an article on anaglyph images ]

If you want to make your own 3d glasses, it’s easy! Just find a CD jewel case, which you don’t use anymore, because who uses CDs anymore? Then, you’ll just need a red and blue sharpie, draw red on the left and blue on the right (it’s important that the red corresponds with your left eye), and voila!

Student Find – How To

You’ll notice that there is a section on the left side of the page called the “Student Find.”

This section is for students and anyone else to post links and images of things that she/he finds on or off the Internet. You do not need to log in or have an account to use this sidebar, and all images must be uploaded from your computer, so if you’d like to share something you just saw on the Internet, just create a screenshot by clicking Command + Shift + 4, select the area, and when you hear the shutter sound, an image file will appear on your desktop.

For PC, you need to click Print Screen, then create a new photoshop file, and paste, or use a third party screenshot software like Jing

Simply:

1. click the “Add A Find” button, choose an image to upload, then click upload (you must click upload and wait for the file to finish before submitting your find)

2. Type in a title

3. Type in a link (this will be what your title links to)

4. Enter a description of your find

Click Submit and you’re done! All of the finds will appear as comments to this thread, in case you missed any and want to look back.

*Please Note: If you add comments here, they will show up in the sidebar

Blog Round-up (lazy summer session edition)

summersky

So… I’ve been… and… um… and lazy… and its been a long time since I made any posts, and um… I’ve been busy in and out of the classroom, yada, yada, yada… But I figured I’ve collected enough links to satisfy any drought you may have experienced, so without any more delay here are the latest things found in and around the net:

Cool video by Siggi Eggertsson, also be sure to check out his lectures.

A nice video for U2 directed by David OReilly.

Some interesting cover on Bravo’s upcoming Untitled Art Project? can be found here and here.

Focus on FontStructor Emilio Ignozza a.k.a. Em42.

Ornamental Typography.

Amazing calendar that works off of capillary action.

Awesome animation projected on the facade of a building.

iQ Font (type meets automobiles).

An interesting article about branding to teenagers. Or more so how do you brand to an audience that primarily communicates through texting?

Needlepoint Jane Austen book covers.

Interesting making of article for a short title sequence/animation.

Sci-fi + Sweedish Postcards.

A nice through website about The Rob Roy Kelly Type Collection. More about it here.

The Typography Manual iPhone app.

Illustrator and lettering guru Nate Williams shares his methods for creating new ideas.

The shadow art of Tim Noble and Sue Webster.

Code+Twitter+Embroidery = Pa++ern.

The Vidyalankar Institute of Technology is a great example of the marriage between architecture/interiors and graphic design.

Music video pioneers Hexstatic have an archive of their work online.

The Nice Type Channel on vimeo.

Nice animation done using printers.

91 pixel artists create an exquisite corpse.

Cross Stitch Ninja’s flickr is full of great stuff.

A great video created using only web cams and coordinating a whole lot of people.

Interesting photo project titled Fallen Princesses.

The Museum of Forgotten Art Supplies.

CMYK by hand!

A nice reference chart about tatoo location.

Interesting work from work from the 2009 graduates of BA(Hons) Graphic Design & BA(Hons) Illustration of University of Brighton.

Penguin book covers then and now.

My only hope is that the new game, Fatale, a new interactive version of the tale of Salome, use Aubrey Beardsley illustrations for inspiration.

The Herb Lubalin Center at Cooper Union.

Screenulacra.

Cardboard clouds.

Joel Evey has some nice work.

Evelin Kasikov’s take on typography, hand embroidery on paper emulating dot screens.

FontStructor John Skelton a.k.a. Afrojet.

I really enjoy Mykola Dosenko’s 8bit videos.

Custom lettering!

Interesting flickr group, Looking Into the Past.

An article that perhaps cuts to the bone of my “uniform.”

Lastly the above photo was taken with perhaps one of the best apps I have found in the 2 days I have had my iPhone: ShakeIt Photo. If you don’t have it go get it, now. If you don’t have an iPhone you can just use photoshop.
