Freinds of Library Designs Due Feb. 08

EMU Friends of the Library need our help. They are having a contest and need us to do the following:

  1. design a bookmark
  2. design for a 11″ x 8″ canvas bag (2-3 colours)
  3. design a new logo for them

Each category will win a $100 gift certificate. These designs will give back to the EMU community as they are using them for a fund raiser to make the library better. Not only do you have a chance to win some money but you have the opportunity to give back to EMU. There are a few restrictions you must remember:

  • bookmark and canvas bag must say “EMU Friends of the Library”
  • your name and graduation year will appear on the design
  • you can  have a printed piece to put in your portfolio
  • they really want your design to “POP”
  • let’s show the library how supportive we are

if you need to ask my any questions, please e-mail me or reply to this. my e-mail is jalliso1@emich.eduif you would like to visit EMU friends of the Library website go to http://brand.emich.edu/fol

Lilies for Lilly

There is a little girl back home (in Brockville Ontario) that was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Her name is Lilly and she is one-years-old. There is going to be an art exhibition in Toronto where all art sold will go towards her medical bills as she comes from a family that isn’t well off. I’m looking for people who would be interested in donating paintings or creating paintings, photos, posters, ect. for the exhibition – but there’s a catch: the exhibition is called “Lilies for Lilly” so all art should be of a lily or lilies. If you can have the items for me before February 16th 2008 that would be sweet. If you can frame it that would be even better but if not I can pay for it to be framed.

Canadian Sarah (ask around if you don’t know who I am)

IGG is looking for senior shows

I would like current EMU students to be aware that we are continually searching for seniors who would like to have a senior thesis exhibition. We have some time available still this semester and are actively looking for students who would like to have either a solo or joint exhibition. We are also budgeting for multiple senior shows next semester so please get your applications in early. Guidelines are all in the application which is attached to this email, please return them to Ford Hall.

Also, in cooperation with the Arts Management program IGG is seeking work to display in the lobby and the space between the two theaters in Quirk Hall. For more information please contact Chaely at cchartie@emich.edu.

Both of these are great opportunities for resume building and vital experience in the art world. Also, remember Student Show applications are due Thursday, November 8 by 4 PM.

Thank You,

Rob Todd

EMU Art Student Show

If you have not yet heard, the annual juried Student Show has been moved to the fall semester. This may seem like a strange idea but, among other reasons, Larry gave up the opportunity to use the University Gallery and we decided we would try it. This is certainly a trial run to see how the change will go. However, that does not mean that we expect the show to be sub-par. On the contrary, we hope that with the use of the best gallery on campus we can make the Student Show better than it’s ever been but we need the help of the teachers to get the word out.

- Application deadline is NOVEMBER 8 at 4 PM (turn in to Ford)
- Pieces not accepted to last year’s show can be resubmitted this semester.
- Applications are available in Ford and the Student Gallery in the Student Center.
- Questions should be forwarded to intermediaEMU@hotmail.com.

This year’s exhibition will be jurried by Greg Tom, Programming & Development Coordinator of MoCAD.
