This book looks pretty cool. Reminds me of the book project we had in Ryan’s image making class. All about happy accidents and the image you can create you didn’t know you could.
After working as EMU Student Center Operations student graphic designer for what will be almost three years in April, it is about time for me to say “Good bye.” This means the department is in need of a replacement to start working the beginning of the 2010 Spring semester. The details are below:
Cellar Roots is an award-winning magazine of student poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and art in all mediums. They are looking for graphic designers to help with this school year’s book! It will be an awesome portfolio opportunity and a nice way to make some extra bit of cash. Contact Cellar Roots’ Editor-in-Chief Bill Barr for more information at cellarroots.editor@gmail.com.
This video has been out on the interwebs for some time now but I figured I would share it as some of the seniors soon approach graduation in a few weeks. Nick Campbell of Digital Kitchen (and greyscalegorilla his personal site) shares his thoughts on what it takes to get into the business of motion design.
I personally think he hits the nail on the head when he says that in school you need to know the basics, good design principles, good typography, etc. He makes it a point to say that the creative stuff and formal stuff comes first, and then learning software is something you can do at anytime.
This is very much the philosophy of most architecture schools, teach design first, then upon graduation and in the real world one learns the nuts and bolts of putting buildings together, working with clients, etc.
If you get a chance check out the blog on his site greyscalegorilla there are plenty of good things there especially some nice Cinema 4D tutorials.
Well, class is in an hour. I haven’t been into the lab since the end of the Winter semester. Don’t know if everything remained there, or was taken down. But here is how the collage wall looked last time I saw it.
Though there may have been a few more dickbutts on it.
EMU Friends of the Library need our help. They are having a contest and need us to do the following:
design a bookmark
design for a 11″ x 8″ canvas bag (2-3 colours)
design a new logo for them
Each category will win a $100 gift certificate. These designs will give back to the EMU community as they are using them for a fund raiser to make the library better. Not only do you have a chance to win some money but you have the opportunity to give back to EMU. There are a few restrictions you must remember:
bookmark and canvas bag must say “EMU Friends of the Library”
your name and graduation year will appear on the design
you can have a printed piece to put in your portfolio
they really want your design to “POP”
let’s show the library how supportive we are
if you need to ask my any questions, please e-mail me or reply to this. my e-mail is jalliso1@emich.eduif you would like to visit EMU friends of the Library website go to http://brand.emich.edu/fol

This is a SENIORS only show. The FIRST one we have ever held and something we have been pushing for for a long time. It will be hung in the University Gallery at. Be a part of EMU history.
If you are a senior with around 100 credits, you are elligible.Think about 1-3 works that they you want to install for the exhibit.
We will send along information soon about how we will go about working with you for spotting and installing.
This is a GREAT opportunity to show your work to the public, friend, parents, etc …and a nice way to end your time at EMU.
Come on people … do like Alan and Sarah said and TEAR THAT SHIT UP ! ;)
Best,
There is a little girl back home (in Brockville Ontario) that was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Her name is Lilly and she is one-years-old. There is going to be an art exhibition in Toronto where all art sold will go towards her medical bills as she comes from a family that isn’t well off. I’m looking for people who would be interested in donating paintings or creating paintings, photos, posters, ect. for the exhibition – but there’s a catch: the exhibition is called “Lilies for Lilly” so all art should be of a lily or lilies. If you can have the items for me before February 16th 2008 that would be sweet. If you can frame it that would be even better but if not I can pay for it to be framed.

This is an article about what it means to be a photographer specifially, and an artist in general. It deals mostly with being concious of your audience, so it’s worth the read no matter what type of artist you are.
